Russia called for immediate dialogue to address the escalating violence in the DRC, emphasizing peace talks among all parties as crucial for conflict resolution.

On Friday, Russia urged for dialogue in order to halt the ongoing violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), cautioning against a potential escalation that could result in an inter-state conflict. Maria Zakharova, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, stressed the importance of immediate peace negotiations involving all relevant parties.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been plagued by violence for years, particularly in its mineral-rich eastern regions where armed groups vie for power and control. Notably, the M23 rebel group, accused of receiving support from Rwanda, recently claimed to have taken control of significant portions of the Congolese city of Goma, following its resurgence after previous insurgencies in 2012 and 2022.

In summary, Russia’s call for dialogue highlights the urgent need for peace talks in the DRC amidst rising violence and power struggles among armed groups. The situation is exacerbated by the involvement of external forces, which complicates the prospect of resolution through diplomatic means.
