Wood Brothers Racing is set to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series in Mexico City for the first time. Driver Josh Berry and the No. 21 DEX Imaging team will race in the Viva Mexico 250, a 242-mile event on the 2.429-mile Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Practice sessions and qualifying are scheduled ahead of the race, with coverage available on Amazon Prime Video.

This weekend marks a significant moment for Wood Brothers Racing as they prepare to compete in Mexico City, a first for the NASCAR Cup Series in its 75-year history. Josh Berry and the No. 21 DEX Imaging Ford Mustang Dark Horse team will participate in the Viva Mexico 250 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. This race is particularly noteworthy as it is only the third points-paying event held outside the contiguous United States.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, a historical 2.429-mile, 15-turn road course established in 1959, is named after renowned racing figures Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. Over the years, this iconic circuit has hosted a range of major motorsport events. It is known for its blend of tight corners and long straights, offering a unique challenge for drivers.

Josh Berry has taken a liking to the track layout. “It is definitely a pretty cool layout,” he observed. “It is going to be interesting. I think there are some passing zones.” However, he is also aware of the difficulties that await.

“There’s definitely going to be issues with track limits in the esses, right? It’s just tight. You can just tell,” Berry mentioned, adding that it may be a more challenging environment than Circuit of the Americas (COTA). “Overall, I think it should probably be a good race. That is what we want to see.”

To ensure that teams are adequately prepared for this new venue, NASCAR has extended the practice sessions on Friday. Teams will participate in two sessions: the first lasting 50 minutes beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a second shorter session of 25 minutes at 3 p.m.

Qualifying will take place on Saturday at noon, with the actual race commencing on Sunday at 3 p.m. — a 242-mile endeavor across the historic circuit. Event breaks are set for Laps 20 and 45, and fans can catch all the action on Amazon Prime Video throughout the weekend.

In conclusion, as Wood Brothers Racing heads to Mexico for its landmark race, all eyes are on the challenges and opportunities that await on the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. With extended practice sessions and a mix of excitement and concern from the teams, it promises to be an unforgettable experience in NASCAR’s history. Fans can tune in to witness this historic race weekend on Amazon Prime Video.
