The suspect, Isaac Kuria, also known by the alias “Kush,” was arrested in Isebania, a border town near Tanzania, as he was allegedly attempting to flee after the murder. Kuria is believed to have played a direct role in the MP’s assassination, which occurred during daylight on Valley Road in Nairobi. Detectives were able to track his movements through monitored communications, ultimately leading to his arrest at a lodging facility in Isebania. He was accompanied by another individual, who is now also in custody.
This latest development brings the total number of suspects detained in connection with the assassination to eleven. Among those already apprehended are Were’s personal bodyguard, Allan Omondi; his driver, Walter Owino; and William Imoli, who is suspected of helping to organize and finance the assassination.
The investigation has broadened to include prominent figures such as businessman and politician Phillip Aroko, alongside Ebel Ochieng, who serves as the Director of the Lake Basin Development Authority. Both are believed to have provided monetary support for the alleged plot to kill the MP. Additional people in custody include Edwin Oduor and Dennis Manyasi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that they are scrutinizing bank transactions and communication logs among the suspects to ascertain the precise motivations behind Were’s murder. Meanwhile, the late MP was laid to rest on May 9 at his home in Kachien village, Kasipul Constituency.
