Niger Police Arrest Two Burglars and Investigate Sheep Theft Case

Niger State Police arrested two suspects for burglary in Minna, stealing a TV, remote, and pots. Vigilant neighbors alerted authorities leading to swift action. Another suspect was caught for stealing 50 sheep, implicating an accomplice who is still at large.
In a recent operation, the Niger State Police Command apprehended two individuals suspected of burglary in Minna, the state capital. The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Musa Audu and 45-year-old Abdullahi Garba, both residents of the Kwangila neighborhood, allegedly broke into a home through a window. They reportedly made off with a 35-inch plasma television, a remote control, and two aluminum pots, loading the items into a sack.
According to sources from Arewa PUNCH, the duo’s attempts to escape were thwarted by vigilant neighbors who noticed unusual activity and promptly alerted law enforcement. Officers responded quickly, leading to the suspects’ arrest before they could flee the scene. The Niger State Police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and described how the crime took place.
Abiodun explained that the burglary occurred on April 30, 2025, around 11:45 AM. He noted, “The suspects reportedly broke into a residence within the Brighter area when the Niger police were not around.” He further detailed that the stolen items were concealed in sacks, only to be discovered by the police due to community intervention.
The suspects are currently in custody and under investigation at the Chanchaga division, with plans to arraign them in court as soon as possible. In another related case, police apprehended a third suspect, 32-year-old Danrani Usman, who allegedly stole 50 sheep from Yangalu village. Usman reportedly named an accomplice, identified as Isah, who remains at large.
The Police PRO Abiodun relayed details of Usman’s arrest, which took place on April 27, 2025, at around 9:00 AM, as police operatives from ‘B’ Div Kontagora collaborated with local vigilantes. “During interrogation, he confessed that himself and one Isah presently at large stole the animals from Yangalu village through Magama LGA,” Abiodun stated, indicating ongoing efforts to capture Isah. He assured that the matter is under continued investigation, especially considering its ties to cattle rustling incidents in the area.
Overall, the recent arrests made by the Niger State Police highlight their commitment to tackling crime in the region. The swift action by community members and police not only curtailed the burglary attempt but also led to further investigations into serious offenses like cattle rustling. As authorities work to resolve these cases, public vigilance remains crucial in supporting law enforcement efforts.
