A tragic incident in the Soje ‘A’ area of Minna, Niger State, resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy, Adnan Bulana, due to a stray bullet fired by a vigilante attempting to disperse local miscreants. The armed group aimed to apprehend suspects but encountered resistance, leading to a violent confrontation where gunshots and teargas were used.
Witnesses reported that young Adnan was sent on an errand by his mother at the time of the crossfire. According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, the incident took place on April 1, 2025, around 12:20 PM. Following the gunfire, local youths retaliated against the vigilante group, prompting police intervention to restore order.
Abiodun confirmed that the victim was rushed to the general hospital in Minna but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Additionally, he mentioned a separate incident on March 31, 2025, in which a youth named Safaryu Musa was stabbed during a conflict between rival groups in Anguwan-Roka, Maitumbi. Musa is currently receiving treatment at a nearby clinic.
The police have initiated an investigation into both occurrences to identify those responsible and enforce arrests as necessary.
