Uzbekistan’s Car Imports and Market Trends in Early 2025

Uzbekistan imported 4,415 passenger cars worth $75.9 million in early 2025. China led in exports, followed by South Korea and Japan. Despite these imports, car sales fell by 14.5% in February. Imports and sales of foreign cars declined significantly, indicating changes in market dynamics and consumer preferences.
In the first two months of 2025, Uzbekistan imported 4,415 passenger cars, as reported by the National Statistics Committee. The total expenditure for these imports amounted to $75.9 million. Notably, China emerged as the primary exporter, supplying 3,149 vehicles, with South Korea providing 1,191 and Japan contributing 32 units. Smaller shipments came from Germany, the United States, and Mexico, totaling 11, 8, and 8 vehicles, respectively.
Despite the influx of imported vehicles, passenger car sales in Uzbekistan saw a 14.5% decrease in February compared to January, reaching 67,200 units. This decline is attributed to diminished activity in the foreign car market, indicating a shift in industry dynamics. Notably, sales of domestically manufactured cars remained stable at 21,700 units, while sales of new foreign vehicles suffered a significant drop, suggesting changes in consumer behavior or possible supply chain challenges.
The Customs Committee reported a stark decline in Uzbekistan’s car imports in January 2025, which fell nearly sixfold year-on-year, with hybrid car imports experiencing an alarming 31-fold decrease. Overall, January witnessed only 1,796 passenger cars imported, valued at $31 million, demonstrating a substantial decline in the sector. Electric vehicle imports also saw a significant reduction, dropping 2.5 times during the same period.
In February 2025, Uzbekistan imported 2,570 passenger cars valued at approximately $45 million. However, compared to February 2024, the value of car imports diminished by 3.53 times, and the number of cars imported declined by 2.82 times, reflecting broader market trends and challenges.
In summary, Uzbekistan’s automobile market is experiencing significant shifts, characterized by a drop in passenger car imports and sales. Notable changes in consumer preferences and potential supply disruptions are influencing the dynamics of both foreign and domestic car markets. The substantial decreases in imports and sales figures suggest a need for reevaluation of strategies within the automotive sector.
