The Liberian Government has shut down Lofa Medic Services Clinic following a surgery leading to a patient’s death. Administrator Sam Wolobah has been arrested for alleged medical malpractice and impersonation as a medical doctor. This incident has raised concerns about healthcare accountability and ethical responsibilities in Liberia.

The Government of Liberia has officially closed down a private clinic following a tragic incident involving a surgery that resulted in a patient’s death. On March 26, 2025, in Monrovia, the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), announced the arrest of the clinic’s administrator, Sam Wolobah, for alleged medical malpractice related to this incident.

The Lofa Medic Services Clinic is situated in Neezoe, Jacob Town, Paynesville, Liberia. In a joint press release dated March 25, 2025, both the Ministry of Justice and the LMDC stated that their Public Safety Divisions had immediately shut down the clinic pending further investigation. The unfortunate victim, a 30-year-old man named Samuel P. Kollie, died following an appendectomy performed by Mr. Wolobah, who is purported to be a Medical Doctor.

As per the latest updates, Mr. Wolobah is currently in custody with the Liberia National Police, undergoing interrogation. Preliminary investigations have suggested that he misrepresented himself as a medical doctor and performed the appendectomy, which tragically led to Kollie’s demise. Under Section 12.35 of the Liberian Penal Code, impersonation of a public official with intent to deceive is a criminal offense, further complicating the case against Mr. Wolobah.

In summary, the closure of Lofa Medic Services Clinic highlights the critical issues of medical accountability and the ethical obligations of healthcare providers in Liberia. The arrest of Sam Wolobah, who allegedly performed a surgery under false pretenses, underscores the seriousness of impersonation and malpractice in the medical field, prompting necessary investigations to ensure justice and uphold public safety.
