The BYD Atto 2, a right-hand-drive (RHD) prototype, has recently been spotted in Thailand, indicating a potential launch in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia. The significance of this observation is higher due to Malaysia’s compatibility with RHD vehicles, increasing the possibility of the Atto 2 entering the local market. Experts suggest that a larger 50 kWh battery could be introduced, enhancing its range and competitiveness against electric vehicle rivals such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia EV3.

Initially introduced in China as the Yuan Up, the Atto 2 is a B-segment electric SUV that occupies a position in BYD’s lineup below the Atto 3. The Thai prototype exhibited distinct features, including a right-hand steering configuration and a revised interior with a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The new model is anticipated to lack the distinctive crystal-like gear selector found in its Chinese counterpart, potentially adopting a column-mounted shift stalk instead.

The Atto 2 is equipped with a front-mounted motor generating 177 PS (130 kW) and 290 Nm of torque, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds. It houses a 45.12 kWh Blade battery, delivering an estimated WLTP range of 312 km and supporting rapid DC charging as well as AC wallbox charging methods, which place it in line with other BYD vehicles.
