Sudiksha Konanki, a missing college student in the Dominican Republic, has led investigators to identify a person of interest. Surveillance footage of Konanki and her companions has surfaced following her disappearance on March 6. The case involves multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, with concerns about inconsistent witness statements prompting further inquiry into all possible scenarios regarding her fate.

The search for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student missing in the Dominican Republic, has led to the identification of a person of interest by U.S. investigators. Konanki was last captured on surveillance entering the beach area of the Riu República Hotel in Punta Cana on March 6. Although the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office does not have jurisdiction, they have dispatched detectives to assist in the investigation.

The Dominican National Police reported that the unidentified person of interest has been thoroughly interviewed. New surveillance footage shows her leaving the hotel in the company of three individuals, with one man believed to be the last person to see her. Authorities reported that he left the beach area later that morning, without any signs of Konanki.

Concerns have emerged regarding discrepancies in witness accounts, as highlighted by Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman, raising questions about the events that transpired. The case has garnered additional support since the FBI joined the search efforts on March 7. Various Dominican agencies, including the military and civil defense, are collaborating to locate Konanki.

Re-interviews of people associated with the missing student have commenced to confirm their earlier statements. This investigation also includes hotel staff to track movements and interactions leading up to her disappearance.

A power outage coincided with her disappearance, which resulted in many guests heading to the beach. Law enforcement has deployed extensive team efforts, including over 300 officers and aquatic units, to gather leads and ascertain Konanki’s whereabouts.

Dominican President Luis Abinader stated that the investigation leans towards an accidental incident, while expressing the country’s commitment to tourist safety. Konanki’s father raised concerns about the possibility of foul play due to her belongings being left behind, which deviates from her usual behavior.

A formal complaint has been filed by her family to broaden the investigation beyond accidental drowning. They urge that all potential scenarios, including kidnapping, be thoroughly examined. The Riu Hotels chain has expressed its deep concern and commitment to cooperating with local authorities in the matter.

The case of Sudiksha Konanki remains a pressing concern, with ongoing investigations involving multiple law enforcement agencies. While the focus is on locating her, discrepancies in witness statements and an unusual absence of her belongings are raising alarms regarding the circumstances of her disappearance. The family’s request for further investigation into all possibilities reflects their distress in this unexplained situation, while authorities continue their search efforts in Punta Cana.
