Morocco is experiencing adverse weather due to the atmospheric depression “Jana.” It is expected to bring heavy snowfall, rainfall, and strong winds across various regions until Tuesday. The DGM issued red and orange alerts for several provinces, urging citizens to follow weather updates closely.

Currently, Morocco is experiencing severe weather conditions attributed to a deep atmospheric depression named “Jana,” as confirmed by Houcine Youaabed, head of the communication department at the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). The disturbances are moderate nationwide, with heightened intensity in the northern regions and the Rif area. Youaabed indicated that this depression has impacted western and southern Europe before reaching Morocco and will persist until Tuesday.

The DGM anticipates dangerous weather phenomena including significant snowfall exceeding 70 cm in some areas, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and local hail. These conditions are expected from Saturday afternoon to Monday afternoon, particularly in the provinces of Ifrane, Azilal, Béni Mellal, and Midelt, which are under a red-level alert. Other provinces will also face an orange-level alert with snowfall ranging from 20-40 cm.

Heavy rainfall is also forecasted, with accumulations between 80 to 150 mm expected in several northern provinces such as Tanger-Assilah, Chefchaouen, and Tétouan from Saturday morning to Monday evening. An orange alert is also assigned to various provinces such as Fahs-Anjra and Kénitra, where rainfall between 40-80 mm is anticipated during the same period.

In addition to the precipitation, strong wind gusts, reaching speeds of 70 to 95 km/h, are expected in various regions from Saturday morning to late Sunday. These strong winds may lead to local dust storms, affecting numerous provinces, including Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, and others. An orange-level alert for wind is also issued for areas such as Jerada and Nador.

In summary, Morocco is currently facing severe weather conditions due to the approaching depression “Jana,” with warnings for significant snowfall, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. Various provinces are under red and orange alerts, urging citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to official weather updates. The DGM strongly recommends that the public stay informed for their safety during this severe weather event.
