According to two police sources, her clothing was located on a portable beach bed, close to the area where she was last reported to have gone swimming.

The 20-year-old Konanki, who is an Indian citizen and a legal permanent resident of the United States, was on a trip with friends. Following a visit to a nightclub, the group proceeded to the beach at approximately 4 a.m. local time. While her friends returned to their hotel around 5:55 a.m. and were confirmed by security footage, Konanki reportedly remained on the beach with an unidentified male companion.

The man allegedly stated to police that he and Konanki had entered the water but were swept up by a strong wave. Afterward, he became ill, fell asleep on a beach bed, and, upon waking, found Konanki missing. He later returned to his hotel at 9:55 a.m., and sources have indicated that he is not regarded as a suspect in this case.

Three Dominican officials mentioned that authorities suspect Konanki may have drowned. The last known image of her was captured on a security camera at around 4:15 a.m. on Thursday. The investigation initially involved the U.S. embassy, which contacted the Dominican Public Ministry regarding the case.
