The Ghana Health Service reports no cholera deaths in the last three weeks. Vaccination efforts have reached nearly 99% completion, while sanitation measures are being implemented to curb the outbreak. A total of 6,145 suspected cases have been reported since August 2022, with 49 confirmed fatalities across multiple regions, particularly in Efutu and Agona West districts.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) remains steadfast in its commitment to eliminating cholera outbreaks across the nation. Following a recent surge in cases, which unfortunately led to several fatalities, GHS Director General Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea has confirmed the encouraging news that no cholera-related deaths have been recorded in the past three weeks.

Prof. Akoriyea expressed optimism regarding the collaborative efforts of stakeholders in combating the outbreak, noting the vital role that the ongoing vaccination campaign has played. He stated, “We are doing very great when it comes to the cholera. Right now, for the past three weeks we don’t have any deaths. We have been able to do almost 99% of vaccinations and we are now doing surveys to confirm and be sure that we have given to all the population that we targeted.”

In addition to the vaccination efforts, Prof. Akoriyea highlighted initiatives aimed at improving sanitation, including cleaning campaigns conducted by regional health directors. He emphasized the importance of continuous actions, stating, “We just hope that it is not a one-day thing.” Since the cholera outbreak began in August of the previous year, Ghana has reported 6,145 suspected cases, with 719 confirmed, and 49 deaths, primarily affecting the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern, Western, and Ashanti regions. Notably, the Efutu and Agona West districts have been identified as significant hotspots for the disease, and health officials continue to urge residents to maintain high standards of cleanliness.

The Ghana Health Service has not reported any cholera-related deaths in the past three weeks, reflecting progress in combating the outbreak. Significant vaccination efforts are underway, with nearly complete coverage of the targeted population. Continuous sanitation measures are also being implemented to enhance public health. Health authorities emphasize the need for ongoing vigilance and cleanliness in the communities affected by cholera.
