The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall across several regions this weekend, spanning from Friday, March 7, to Tuesday, March 11. This advisory highlights potential downpours in eight specific areas, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley.

In addition, rainfall is forecasted for the Coastal Region, Southeastern Lowlands, Northwest, and southern Coast. The department emphasized that while most parts of the country will generally experience predominantly sunny, dry, and hot weather, this will transition to possible rainfall, particularly over the weekend.

The Highland East Counties such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, and others are predicted to receive considerable rainfall from Saturday afternoon. Sunny and hot conditions are expected on Friday before the onset of rain.

Similarly, counties including Siaya, Kisumu, and others are likely to experience heavy rains from Sunday, March 9, to Tuesday, March 12. Additional counties such as Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, and others will follow this weather pattern.

Conversely, counties in the North Eastern region like Marsabit and Mandera are forecasted to remain under sunny conditions. Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.9 m/s) are predicted in select areas of Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya, indicating potentially hazardous conditions for travel and outdoor activities during this period.

In summary, the Kenya Meteorological Department alerts citizens to prepare for significant rainfall across several regions this weekend. While most of the country may initially experience sunny and hot conditions, heavy rains are anticipated to commence on Saturday afternoon, particularly in the Highlands East and other specified counties.
