Dangote Forms New Partnership to Sell Affordable Petrol in Nigeria

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has partnered with Optima Energy to sell affordable petrol in Nigeria, joining existing partners MRS, Ardova, and Heyden. This announcement aligns with NNPC’s reduction of its petrol prices nationwide. Dangote aims for fairness in pricing, promising reimbursements for customers overcharged by fuel marketers.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a partnership with Optima Energy to enhance the distribution of affordable petrol in Nigeria. This collaboration increases the total partnerships involved in selling Dangote fuel to four, which also includes MRS Nigeria, Ardova PLC, and Hyden. The announcement coincides with a nationwide decrease in petrol prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
Dangote encourages citizens to purchase petrol from its partner outlets, stating that this fuel is refined to improve engine performance while minimizing environmental impact. The refinery highlighted competitive pricing across various locations, with petrol prices ranging from N860 to N895 per litre depending on the partner.
In response to the pricing dynamics, NNPC has lowered its petrol price to N860 per litre from a previous N945 per litre, effective March 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery has reduced its ex-depot price from N890 to N825 per litre, signifying a reduction of N65. The refinery aims to provide affordable fuel while ensuring its partners comply with these rates.
Furthermore, Dangote has expressed a commitment to reimburse individuals purchasing above the advertised rates, promoting fairness in sales practices. The refinery stressed that excessive profiteering, such as selling fuel at inflated prices, undermines public welfare and is unacceptable. Consumers are encouraged to report any such discrepancies to secure a refund.
Additionally, the Dangote Refinery has purchased its first shipment of Algeria’s light sweet Saharan blend crude, further advancing its operational capabilities. This shipment, amounting to one million barrels, is expected to arrive by March 2025.
In summary, the announcement of a partnership between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Optima Energy aims to facilitate the distribution of affordable petrol in Nigeria. The reduction in fuel prices by both Dangote and NNPC highlights a competitive market landscape. Dangote’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing and reimbursements for overpricing emphasizes their dedication to consumer welfare and industry integrity.
