Katja Mia is hosting a traditional engagement celebration in Burundi after a prior party in Dublin. Her fiancé, Daragh Curran, is excited for his first visit to Africa and to meet Mia’s family. They plan a destination wedding later but are focused on the engagement event.

Katja Mia recently celebrated her engagement to Daragh Curran with a lively event in Dublin. However, she has announced that the festivities will continue as she plans to return to her homeland of Burundi for a traditional engagement celebration. In a conversation with Vicki Notaro on her podcast, “You Had Me At Hello,” she shared her mother’s desire to host a grand traditional engagement ceremony after they initially believed they had completed the celebrations.

Mia expressed her excitement about returning to the traditions she experienced growing up, noting, “The traditional engagement there is way bigger than the white wedding. They go all out. There’s Burundian drummers, Burundian dancers, you wear traditional clothing.” Her fiancé, Daragh, is equally thrilled about this significant occasion, as it will be his first visit to Burundi and Africa as a whole. Mia remarked, “[My family] are mad to meet him! It’s funny because he’s going to be the only white person there. So he’ll know how I feel!”

In addition to discussing the engagement celebration, Mia provided insights into her upcoming wedding plans. She revealed that they intend to have a destination wedding, inviting friends and family who can travel to join them for the event. However, she emphasized that this is not imminent, stating, “This is the first hurdle. We’ll deal with this last year.”

Katja Mia is set to celebrate her engagement through a traditional Burundian ceremony, highlighting the cultural significance of such events. Her fiancé, Daragh Curran, is looking forward to experiencing this rich tradition during his first visit to Africa. The couple also plans a destination wedding, although they are prioritizing the engagement celebration first.
