INAM has predicted the formation of two tropical storms, Honde and Garance, near Madagascar. Honde could intensify into a tropical cyclone, impacting the Mozambique Channel and causing rainfall in Mozambique. Garance poses no threat to the country. In light of these developments, precautions for maritime navigation are advised.

The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) has announced the potential development of two tropical cyclones, named Honde and Garance, in the vicinity of Madagascar between Thursday and Friday. Tropical Storm Honde, currently situated approximately 250 km off Inhambane province’s coast, is expected to evolve into a tropical cyclone by Friday, resulting in strong winds across the Mozambique Channel and varying levels of rainfall in certain areas of Mozambique.

Meteorologist Lelo Tayob commented on the situation, stating that while Tropical Storm Honde is not directly over land, its considerable size influences atmospheric circulation, leading to rain on the mainland. Thus, even though its direct impacts occur at sea, Mauritian regions may still experience rainfall.

Tropical Storm Garance is currently moving east of Madagascar and may develop into a tropical cyclone; however, it poses no threat to Mozambique. According to Tayob, “Tomorrow, [Tropical Storm Garance] will evolve into a tropical cyclone, but given its size, location and movement, which is far from Madagascar, it will not have an impact on the continental part of our country.”

Despite the absence of immediate threats, INAM emphasizes the importance of safety precautions, especially for those engaged in maritime navigation given the prevailing weather conditions.

In summary, INAM forecasts the formation of two tropical storms, Honde and Garance, with Honde expected to impact the Mozambique Channel and mainland rain while Garance poses no threat to Mozambique. It is crucial for residents and maritime individuals to remain informed and prepared as these systems develop in the region.
