Seismic Activity Report: Earthquakes Occur Across Multiple Regions
A series of significant earthquakes occurred recently, including a 5.1-magnitude quake in Morocco and a 5.9-magnitude quake in Vanuatu. A tsunami warning was temporarily issued for the Mexican coastline but has since been lifted. Authorities are advising the public to exercise caution due to unusual currents in some areas.
On February 10, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Morocco, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake was centered in Chefchaouen at a depth of 10 kilometers, and the USGS noted that 420 individuals reported feeling the tremor at that time.
This event followed a 5.9-magnitude earthquake in Vanuatu, also on February 10. The earthquake was centered in Port-Vila at a depth of 18 kilometers. It was part of a series of seismic activities, including a more significant 7.6-magnitude quake in the Cayman Islands on February 8, located in George Town at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Additionally, prior to the Cayman Islands earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for the Mexican coastline but was lifted two hours later. According to the National Weather Service Warning Center, “With the latest modeling and information, the tsunami threat has passed. There are no alerts posted for the United States or International Partners. The tsunami threat has passed. Unusual currents may be noticed in some areas. Exercise normal caution.”
The seismic activity also included a 3.4-magnitude earthquake in California on February 7, centered in Petrolia at a depth of 10 kilometers. This quake occurred shortly after a 2.9-magnitude earthquake the previous day in the same region, which had a depth of 4.4 kilometers. Moreover, the sequence of events included a 4.3-magnitude earthquake reported in Alaska on February 5, which occurred in Sustina at a depth of 5.4 kilometers.
In summary, recent seismic events have included multiple earthquakes across different regions, notably a 5.1-magnitude earthquake in Morocco, a 5.9-magnitude quake in Vanuatu, and a 7.6-magnitude earthquake in the Cayman Islands. A tsunami warning related to these earthquakes was issued but has since been lifted. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and emphasize caution regarding unusual currents in some areas.
