The Libyan Public Prosecutor’s Office found 28 bodies believed to be of irregular migrants near Kufra and freed 76 others from forced detention. Legal actions have been initiated against members of the Coast Guard for illegal migrant transport attempts. Additionally, Egyptian irregular migrants have been arrested and returned to Egypt as part of enhanced security measures.

On Sunday, the Libyan Public Prosecutor’s Office reported the discovery of 28 bodies, presumed to belong to irregular migrants, buried near a detention center in Kufra, southeastern Libya. Concurrently, 76 migrants were liberated from forced detention. Forensic experts have been enlisted to ascertain the cause of death, and testimonies from the victims have begun to be collected. Authorities are set to interrogate three suspects, consisting of two foreign nationals and one Libyan citizen.

In a related development, the Libyan Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated a criminal case against the head of the Coast Guard in Zuwara, implicating four members of the Coast Guard who allegedly attempted to illegally transport migrants across the Mediterranean. Reports indicate these individuals fired on Criminal Investigations Department officers attempting to halt the operation. Following the investigation, the suspects have been rearrested, and further inquiries are underway to apprehend additional security personnel involved in this endeavor.

Moreover, the Libyan Ministry of the Interior recently apprehended a number of Egyptian irregular migrants, subsequently repatriating them to Egyptian authorities. This initiative was part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing national security and combating irregular migration. Security forces from the Joint Security Room in the Western Mountains also seized stolen vehicles during this operation, reflecting ongoing efforts to address both illegal migration and related crime.
