Alongside a friend, Grenade trekked to Seguku to try and meet the artist, though he was unsuccessful. To make ends meet, he took on various odd jobs, including selling scrap metal. During this challenging period, Grenade met producer Mavo in Kamwokya, who assisted him in recording his first songs under the name Moz Dem.
