Joseph Boateng, also known as Afriy Pepper, age 37, and Hashim Zurakanini, aged 27, received their sentences from the Jasikan Circuit Court on May 23, 2025, after a swift legal process following their arrest.
The incident took place on May 22, 2025, when Boateng allegedly approached the minor while she was on her way home from fetching water. Reports suggest that he enticed the young girl with a promise of GHC 2,000, leading her to his residence situated at Kas Market.
Once there, Boateng reportedly facilitated Zurakanini in sexually assaulting the child under the guise of needing his sperm for a charm. This unfortunate event drew immediate attention from law enforcement and resulted in a coordinated effort that brought both culprits to justice.
His Honour Yinigabagae Ketha presided over the hearing at the Jasikan Circuit Court, where both men were found guilty—Boateng for aiding in the defilement, while Zurakanini was convicted of the act itself. Deputy Superintendent of Police John Ichor, who serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, affirmed the court’s decision while highlighting the police’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding minors from sexual exploitation.
