Daystar Power Completes Solar Installation at Nexans Ghana Factory

Daystar Power has launched a 532kWp solar energy system at Nexans’ factory in Tema, Ghana. This system will produce 47.7 MWh annually, covering 55% of the factory’s daytime electricity needs. The project is pivotal for Nexans’ sustainability strategy, further supported by commitments to reduce carbon emissions and achieve net-zero by 2050.

Daystar Power has marked a significant achievement in Ghana by commissioning a 532kWp grid-tied solar energy system at the Nexans factory located in Tema. Nexans, a notable global player in cable systems and energy solutions, has embraced this innovative project. The solar installation, comprising 918 photovoltaic (PV) panels in a unique ground-mounted layout, is the first of its kind for Daystar Power in Ghana.

This solar array is poised to generate approximately 47.7 MWh of electricity each year, substantially catering to 55% of the factory’s daytime energy consumption. With an integrated ENcombi controller, the system boasts the capability to sync effectively with the national grid and on-site generators, which ensures a remarkable 99.9% uptime. This feature is crucial as it facilitates proactive maintenance, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency.

Reflecting on the broader implications of solar adoption in Ghana, Victor Ezenwoko, the Ghana Country Head for Daystar Power, emphasized the urgent necessity for companies in the region to decarbonize their operations. He noted, “Companies in Ghana face the pressing need to decarbonise their operations. Nexans is a great example of how companies can adopt solar energy to meet their carbon emissions targets and drive energy cost savings.”

Ezenwoko further expressed pride in having the first ground-mounted solar array installed in Ghana situated in such a prominent manufacturing hub, reaffirming Daystar Power’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions in the country.
