Nairobi National Park is situated just 10 kilometers from the city center and hosts a variety of wildlife, including lions, buffalos, giraffes, leopards, and cheetahs. The park is enclosed on three sides to deter wildlife from entering urban areas, though it remains open to the south for migration purposes.

While human-wildlife conflict is a recognized issue in Kenya, particularly concerning livestock, fatal attacks are relatively rare. This incident follows a similar event last year, when CCTV captured a lion taking a dog from a residence near the park. KWS also reported another incident involving a 54-year-old man who was killed by an elephant in central Nyeri County, about 130 km north of Nairobi, where he succumbed to serious injuries sustained during the encounter.
