Following the incident, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) confirmed his death, stating that he was immediately administered first aid before being urgently transported to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital, where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes after his arrival.
Remi Aboderin, the secretary-general of the Boxing Federation of Nigeria, expressed deep sorrow over the event, describing Olanrewaju as a fearless fighter who died in the ring. He stated, “Indeed, we are devastated. [This is] something we never anticipated would happen. We will fulfill our obligations to support the family.”
At the time of his passing, Oluwasegun had a professional record of 23 fights, winning 13 and losing 8 before facing Mbanugu.
