Liberia and China Forge Technical Cooperation Agreement to Enhance Relations

On March 28, 2025, the Government of Liberia and the People’s Republic of China formalized a technical cooperation agreement aimed at fostering collaboration across diverse sectors. This agreement underscores both governments’ commitment to enhancing peace, stability, prosperity, and development in Liberia through the implementation of jointly agreed projects.
During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Yin Chengwu of China expressed satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing its role in strengthening US-China ties. He noted that the agreement is structured to facilitate the execution of projects through friendly consultations, which aligns with the shared aim of promoting sustainable development in Liberia.
Ambassador Yin reiterated that the principles of equality, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation are fundamental to this agreement. These principles resonate with the commitments surfaced at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, as promoted by Chinese President Xi Jinping. He further connected it to the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, endorsed by Liberia’s President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, expressed her gratitude on behalf of President Boakai and the people of Liberia. She underscored that the agreement would enhance ties between Liberia and China and play a crucial role in Liberia’s economic development, affirming its importance and timely nature.
Foreign Minister Nyanti assured that the agreement would be utilized effectively, asserting that it would yield significant benefits for Liberia. Furthermore, she reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to the One China policy, promising continued support in the bilateral relationship while highlighting the successful past cooperation initiatives.
Nyanti remarked, “This signing ceremony today marks a significant milestone in our bilateral cooperation, and we are deeply thankful for the various projects that the government of China has supported in Liberia.
