Nissan’s Navara Warrior program is expanding into South Africa with a new version of the Navara Pro-4X Warrior, set for launch in April 2025. This model will incorporate modifications made at the local assembly plant, differing from the Australian version but maintaining key performance features. Premcar and Nissan are collaborating to enhance vehicle ergonomics and customer satisfaction in both markets.

Nissan has announced the global expansion of its Navara Warrior program into South Africa, with the introduction of a modified version of the Navara Pro-4X Warrior ute. This new iteration, produced by the Victorian-based company Premcar, is set to launch in late April 2025 but will feature fewer modifications than its Australian counterpart, which is assembled in Melbourne.

The South African variant of the Pro-4X Warrior will benefit from modifications made at the local assembly line in Rosslyn. Design changes will include a 30-millimeter increase in track width, while ground clearance is set at 232mm, a 12mm increase over the standard Navara, yet 40mm less than the Australian model. The gross vehicle mass will match Australia’s at an increase of 100 kilograms, although it will be rated at 3135kg versus 3250kg in Australia.

Notably, certain features commonly found on the Australian version, including a winch-compatible bullbar and particular tyre brands, are absent from the South African model. However, the South African Navara Pro-4X will come equipped with newly engineered suspension tuned for local driving conditions, along with exclusive design elements.

The current ‘D23’-generation Navara has been under production in South Africa since 2020, joining units sourced from Thailand for the Australian market. The South African versions will use a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, similar to the previous generation, whereas Australia’s version utilizes a newer twin-turbocharged 2.3-litre engine.

Premcar CEO Bernie Quinn expressed confidence that the South African Pro-4X Warrior will deliver an exceptional driving experience suited to local conditions. He highlighted the importance of showcasing Australian automotive engineering expertise on an international stage.

Nissan’s local boss, Andrew Humberstone, confirmed plans to continue the Warrior branding with future iterations of the Navara and Patrol, emphasizing a strong partnership with Premcar that enhances customer satisfaction through safety and regulation compliance. Since 2019, over 10,000 Warrior models have been produced, including the recent additions to the Patrol line in 2023. Despite new trademarks for other models, the focus will remain on the Navara and Patrol.

The Nissan Navara Warrior program’s expansion into South Africa marks a significant milestone for both Nissan and Premcar. The modified Pro-4X Warrior will maintain certain features while adapting to local market needs, ensuring optimal performance and appealing design. With strong regional partnerships and ongoing innovation, both companies are poised for success in the growing automotive landscape.
