A fatal shooting involving State House aide’s bodyguard has led to allegations of a cover-up, as police accounts conflict with eyewitness testimonies. Corporal Muhammed Yusuf claims he was attacked, while witnesses describe a prior friendly interaction between him and the victim, Amos Lang’at, before a quarrel turned violent. Inspector General of Police has promised a thorough investigation into the incident.

A recent fatal shooting involving a police officer affiliated with State House has ignited allegations of a potential cover-up due to contradictory reports from authorities and eyewitnesses. Corporal Muhammed Yusuf claims he was attacked by three men during his return home; however, witnesses contended that the victim, Amos Lang’at, had been engaged in a friendly pool game with the officer before an altercation ensued.

The incident took place in Kawangware, with Lang’at being shot on Sunday night. According to an official report recorded at Muthangari Police Station, Corporal Yusuf asserted that he was ambushed by unknown assailants after getting off a motorcycle. He indicated that in a struggle, one man attempted to seize his firearm, yet he managed to retrieve it, fire a warning shot, and escape to the police station, where he reported sustaining injuries.

Upon police arrival at the scene, they found Amos Lang’at, approximately 35 years of age, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. In stark contrast, eyewitnesses reported that Lang’at had been socializing with the officer prior to the shooting and that during a heated argument, a struggle over the firearm occurred, resulting in Corporal Yusuf shooting Lang’at multiple times.

The two men were known acquaintances, frequently seen together in the neighborhood. In light of these serious allegations, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has pledged a comprehensive investigation into Lang’at’s death, which raises significant questions concerning the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident surrounding the fatal shooting of Amos Lang’at by Corporal Muhammed Yusuf has raised serious concerns regarding police accountability and transparency. The stark contradictions between the officer’s claims and eyewitness testimonies call for an in-depth investigation to ensure justice is served and to address public suspicions of a cover-up surrounding the case.
