Family Appeals to IGP Egbetokun for Kidnapped Retired Director’s Rescue
The family of Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, a retired director kidnapped in Delta State, has called for the intervention of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. Emmanuel Ofobrukueta was abducted on January 13 outside his residence in Mosogar, Delta State, the day he intended to travel to Asaba for his pension processing. According to Tietie, Ofobrukueta has been held captive for the past two months, notwithstanding the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing rescue efforts. The victim’s family is enduring severe distress during this trying time.
In response to the kidnapping, the family took self-initiated measures, including hiring a private tracking firm, to aid in his retrieval. Furthermore, they reportedly paid a ransom of N4,020,000 to the abductors via intermediaries, yet Ofobrukueta remains unaccounted for, and no updates have been received from either him or his captors.
Tietie indicated concerns among family members regarding possible collusion between some acquaintances of Ofobrukueta and the kidnappers, particularly those involved in the ransom delivery. Despite growing despair, the family’s solicitors maintain their trust in the Nigeria Police to resolve the case effectively.
Tietie emphasized the necessity for the Inspector-General to prioritize Mr. Ofobrukueta’s case, asserting that the police force possesses the resources to facilitate his recovery. He called for government accountability, stating that “the I-G, as a matter of social responsibility on the part of the government, should ensure that Ofobrukueta is accounted for as a citizen of Nigeria.”
The attorney has also urged the Delta State Government to take action to guarantee Ofobrukueta’s safe return and insists that the family must not be neglected during this crisis. He concluded by appealing for all necessary efforts to secure the release of other kidnapping victims.
