Vice President Jeremiah Koung endorses Samuel Kogar for the Nimba County by-election on April 22, 2025, succeeding the late Senator Prince Johnson. Koung appeals for community inclusivity and clarity in candidate support, following a previous period of uncertainty regarding endorsements.

Vice President Jeremiah Koung has officially endorsed Samuel Kogar from the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) for the upcoming Nimba County by-election set for April 22, 2025. This election follows the passing of the esteemed Senator Prince Johnson, founder of the MDR, in November 2024. Recently, the National Elections Commission (NEC) revealed eight preliminary candidates competing in this election.

During a simulcast telephone call broadcasted on community radio stations throughout Nimba County, Koung stated his confidence in Kogar’s capabilities to succeed the late Johnson. He expressed his distinct support for Kogar, while mentioning his intention to support Mack Gblinwon of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) in another electoral context. Koung emphasized, “I believe Kogar has all it takes to replace the late Johnson.”

Additionally, Koung appealed to the Mah community in Nimba, urging them to allow the Dan community to participate in this election. He reasoned that since there is already a Mah senator in place, it would be beneficial for the county to include voices from the Dan community in this electoral process. Koung remarked, “Let’s keep the balance to make the County stable. Let’s keep our county together and it will be in our interest.”

Koung’s endorsement of Kogar dispels any prior uncertainties regarding his candidate preference, particularly in light of his previous decision to refrain from endorsing anyone during last year’s by-election following his ascension to the vice presidency. This announcement signifies a decisive move in the political landscape of Nimba County.

Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s endorsement of Samuel Kogar highlights a pivotal moment in Nimba County’s political arena as the county prepares for the upcoming by-election. By supporting Kogar and urging the participation of the Dan community, Koung emphasizes the importance of unity and balance among the communities in Nimba County. This endorsement clarifies the Vice President’s position after a period of uncertainty regarding candidate support.
