MotoGP Champion Jorge Martin Hopes for Recovery and Qatar Return

Jorge Martin, a MotoGP champion, aims to return to racing in Qatar after missing the first two rounds due to injuries from pre-season crashes. He has expressed caution regarding his recovery timeline, with injuries including broken bones and muscular damage. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira will miss the forthcoming Austin race due to his own injury, with Augusto Fernandez stepping in as a replacement.
Defending MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has expressed optimism about returning to competition after enduring two pre-season crashes. Despite missing the initial two rounds of the championship, Martin hopes to participate in the fourth round at Lusail, Qatar, on April 12-13. He has confirmed he will not race in Austin, Texas, on March 29-30, prioritizing his health and recovery.
Martin stated, “I expect to be in Qatar, but only if it doesn’t pose any risks,” emphasizing the importance of not rushing his recovery. He suffered significant injuries from a crash on the first day of a testing session in Malaysia, resulting in broken bones in his right hand and foot. Additionally, he sustained further injuries from another crash while training on a supermoto bike.
The injuries Martin has listed include broken radius and scaphoid bones in his left wrist, four fractures in his left foot, and muscular injuries in his right ribs. These setbacks have placed him far behind six-time world champion Marc Marquez in the championship standings, trailing by 74 points after Marquez’s victories in both races and sprints this season.
Martin acknowledged Marquez’s strong performance, stating that it was expected given his capabilities. However, the 27-year-old feels positive about his recovery, saying, “It was a difficult time but now I start to see the light” on social media.
In related news, the Yamaha-Pramac team confirmed that Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira will miss the Austin race due to injuries sustained in a crash during the Sprint Race in Argentina. Augustine Fernandez will replace him for the event following Oliveira’s dislocation and ligament damage diagnosis from further examinations in Portugal.
Jorge Martin is hopeful for a return to MotoGP in Qatar after suffering injuries from pre-season crashes. While he qualifies risks over haste in recovery, he remains positive about improving. The MotoGP landscape also shifts with Oliveira’s absence, highlighting the continued challenges within the sport due to injuries.
