Bee Group Launches Pioneering Electric Mobility Project in Cameroon

Bee Group is launching a million-dollar electric mobility project in Cameroon, featuring 40 electric motorcycles and charging stations. The initiative aims to reduce transport costs, lower pollution, and promote sustainable urban transport. Supported by government incentives and projected job creation, the project also aims for local production by 2026 and future expansion across Africa.

Bee Group is initiating a groundbreaking electric mobility project in Cameroon, investing RM4.5 million (CFA610 million) in the introduction of 40 electric motorcycles and their corresponding charging stations. This collaboration with the Chinese manufacturer, Tembo Electronical Technology, seeks to cut transport costs, reduce pollution, and enhance sustainable transportation in urban areas.

The pilot phase will commence in July 2025, deploying 40 electric motorcycles across four cities: Douala, Yaoundé, Bertoua, and Bafoussam, with ten motorcycles assigned to each city. Each motorcycle will be equipped with four batteries, utilizing two for operation while the other two recharge at strategically located charging stations provided by TotalEnergies and Ola Energy, each accommodating 12 batteries.

After the pilot, Bee Group intends to import an additional 100 motorcycles and aims to establish local production by 2026. This expansion is projected to create jobs, reduce import expenses, and foster technology transfer within Cameroon. Patrick Timani, the CEO and co-founder of Bee Group, highlighted the project’s objective to stimulate economic growth and position Cameroon as a leading electric mobility hub in Africa.

The Cameroonian government supports this project, alongside key partners like 3S Motors and TotalEnergies. As part of the 2025 finance law, electric vehicles are exempt from a 12.5% excise duty, while new motorcycles, batteries, and charging stations are eligible for a 50% tax reduction for the next 24 months. These incentives are anticipated to lower the overall costs of adopting electric vehicles, thereby encouraging sustainable mobility solutions.

The initiative also aims to lower transportation fares and reduce pollution levels. In Douala, where mototaxis represent 61% of trips, this project is expected to enhance urban mobility significantly. Bee Group aspires to drive a sustainable transition in urban transport, decreasing dependence on fossil fuels while generating economic opportunities for local riders.

Upon successful implementation in Cameroon, Bee Group intends to expand this initiative across other African countries. By blending innovation, job creation, and environmental stewardship, this project represents a notable stride towards a greener and more efficient urban transportation system throughout the continent.
