Ukraine Outlines Non-Negotiable Red Lines in US Talks in Saudi Arabia

Andrii Yermak, the Chief of the Ukrainian President’s Office, asserted Ukraine’s essential red lines during discussions with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia. These include an unyielding stance against any neutral status and the recognition of occupied territories. Ukraine proposed a 30-day ceasefire conditional on Russia’s compliance and emphasized the need for clear monitoring mechanisms.

Andrii Yermak, the Chief of the Ukrainian President’s Office, articulated Ukraine’s unwavering red lines during recent discussions with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia. These non-negotiable points were firmly established as part of Ukraine’s stance in the ongoing conflict.

Mr. Yermak stated, “I separately emphasised our red lines. Ukraine is not discussing the neutral status and reduction of the size of its Armed Forces. We will never recognise any temporarily occupied territories as Russian,” highlighting Ukraine’s commitment to its territorial integrity.

In the talks held in Jeddah, Yermak revealed that Kyiv proposed a 30-day ceasefire, coupled with plans for the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of civilians, and the return of deported children. He emphasized the necessity for clear monitoring mechanisms and technical expertise for the ceasefire to be effectively implemented.

After the discussions on March 11, Ukraine expressed a willingness to enact a ceasefire for thirty days, conditional on Russia’s compliance with the same terms. Such measures reflect Ukraine’s focused approach towards achieving lasting peace while maintaining its sovereignty.

The recent talks in Saudi Arabia underscored Ukraine’s steadfast commitment to its territorial rights and military structure, as articulated by Andrii Yermak. By proposing a ceasefire and key humanitarian measures, Kyiv aims to forge a path towards peace, contingent upon reciprocal efforts from Russia.
