A senior citizen from Madagascar underwent a crucial stent procedure in Mumbai for an abdominal aortic aneurysm caused by chronic smoking. After suffering for two months post-fall, he sought treatment in India, leading to a minimally invasive procedure that ensured quick recovery. Medical professionals emphasized the significance of timely intervention and the risks associated with smoking.

A senior citizen from Madagascar underwent a life-saving stent procedure at Masina Hospital in Mumbai after being diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which emerged following a trivial fall from his bed. The patient, Firdoche Houssen, had been suffering from severe abdominal pain for over two months prior to the procedure, significantly impairing his daily activities.

Due to inadequate medical facilities in Madagascar, Mr. Houssen and his family sought advanced treatment in India to address his condition, which was attributed to his chronic smoking. Upon examination, doctors identified a life-threatening bulge in his aorta and performed a minimally invasive stent graft procedure, facilitating quicker recovery and pain alleviation.

Aortic aneurysms can arise from various factors, including chronic smoking, high blood pressure, genetics, and atherosclerosis, posing risks of rupture and severe bleeding. Symptoms may include extreme abdominal or back pain, often not presenting until it is too late for effective intervention.

The stent graft procedure utilized a small device inserted through the artery to fortify the aorta, thereby restoring proper blood flow while minimizing the risks associated with traditional surgery. The operation lasted approximately two hours, with the patient being discharged just three days thereafter.

Dr. Ashank Bansal, a vascular interventional radiologist at Masina Hospital, acknowledged the substantial risk posed by Mr. Houssen’s smoking history, emphasizing the advantages of the stent graft method over open surgery, which involves more complications and longer recovery times.

Fatema Firdos Djaver, the patient’s daughter, expressed gratitude to the medical team, noting their pivotal role in her father’s transformative journey. She stated that their swift and effective intervention exceeded their expectations, leading to an encouraging recovery for her father.

In summary, Firdoche Houssen’s case exemplifies the need for access to advanced medical treatment for life-threatening conditions such as abdominal aortic aneurysms. The stent procedure performed at Masina Hospital not only alleviated his pain but also prevented further complications. Highlighting the dangers of chronic smoking and the importance of timely medical intervention, this case serves as a reminder of the potential of modern medical advances in saving lives.
