Early voting for Louisiana’s election on March 29 has begun and will last until March 22. Low turnout has been reported, with only about 1,100 in-person and 1,700 mail votes so far. The Registrar of Voters Office has temporarily moved to a new location due to construction.

Early voting has commenced for Louisiana’s upcoming election scheduled for March 29. This early voting period will extend until March 22 and will be conducted daily, excluding Sundays. Voters across Cenla will have the opportunity to participate in voting on four statewide constitutional amendments and various local races.

The Rapides Parish Registrar of Voters, Sandra Bonnette, indicated that the early voting turnout has been relatively low. She expressed a desire for increased participation by stating, “In-person is around 1,100, that’s both [polling locations]. By mail is a little over 1,700. A good turnout is 30%.” Additionally, she noted that Rapides Parish, which has approximately 83,000 voters, typically sees such turnout as this particular election is considered smaller in scale due to its limited candidate races and focus on amendments.

For voters in Rapides Parish who plan to visit the Registrar of Voters Offices, the location has temporarily shifted to the first floor of the Kinetix building located at 900 4th Street in downtown Alexandria, due to ongoing renovations at the courthouse. Bonnette elaborated on this situation by apologizing for any inconvenience, stating, “They’re doing renovations in our office at the courthouse, so I do apologize for any inconvenience for the people who have gone to the courthouse. We’ll be here about eight months to 12 months.”

Early voting for Louisiana’s March 29 election is currently underway, running daily until March 22. The Registrar of Voters is encouraging higher voter turnout, particularly for a smaller election involving constitutional amendments and limited local races. Voters should note the temporary relocation of the Registrar’s Office due to renovations at the courthouse.
