On March 17, 2023, the Tarkwa District Court sentenced Enoch Buamah, a 19-year-old illegal miner, to three months of hard labor in prison for stealing items valued at GH¢7,563.00. Buamah had previously been convicted for a similar crime and admitted to charges of unlawful entry, property damage, and theft. Although sentenced for multiple offenses, his sentences will run concurrently.

During the court proceedings, Inspector of Police Patrick Essien detailed the case, explaining that the complainant, Patricia Kyei, a local hairdresser, had left her home locked while she attended an event in Akotom on December 11, 2024. Upon her return on March 12, 2024, she discovered her home had been burglarized, with evident damage to the door and various stolen items.

The prosecution highlighted that Kyei’s stolen belongings included a television, clothing, kitchen utensils, and other household items totaling GH¢7,563.00. Following the break-in, Kyei reported the incident to her local unit committee, which subsequently investigated and confronted Buamah, who confessed and led them to his home where police recovered the stolen goods.

The case exemplifies the enforcement of laws against theft and illegal mining in Ghana. Enoch Buamah received a sentence reflecting his repeated offenses and the gravity of the crime, demonstrating the legal system’s commitment to addressing such unlawful activities.
