Businessman Faces Fraud Charges for Defrauding Police Officer Over Vehicles

According to the prosecutor, the police officer, whose identity has been concealed, resides in Weija SCC, Accra. Adu-Twum, who claims to be a businessman, is also from the Weija Gbawe area. The complainant’s relatives were looking to purchase a Toyota Pickup and Hyundai i30 salon car in 2021, prompting him to seek assistance from a friend who introduced him to Adu-Twum.
During their meeting in Abelemkpe, the complainant was shown the vehicles being auctioned, including a Toyota Hilux and a Hyundai i30. Adu-Twum claimed that immediate payment was necessary due to interest from other buyers. After negotiations, a total of GH¢72,000 was raised, with GH¢40,000 paid at Adu-Twum’s office and GH¢32,000 at the police officer’s office at the Ministries. Adu-Twum assured the complainant that the vehicles would be delivered within a week.
After receiving the funds, Adu-Twum allegedly disappeared, leading to his arrest on January 15, 2025. During the investigation, he returned GH¢25,000 to the complainant, according to the prosecution’s statements in court.
