Samuel Musembi, a suspect in the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott, died by suicide in Nairobi after a police manhunt. He reportedly attempted to poison himself and subsequently inflicted stab wounds before being transported to the hospital, where he passed away. Authorities are still pursuing other suspects linked to Scott’s murder.

Police have confirmed the death of Samuel Musembi, a suspect in the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott. Musembi, who was evading arrest, allegedly took his own life on Wednesday morning at Kenyatta National Hospital, after a failed suicide attempt involving poison followed by self-inflicted stab wounds. He was linked to the transportation of Scott’s body from Nairobi to Makueni County.

Campbell Scott, who was 58 years old, disappeared shortly after arriving in Kenya on February 17 for a conference, and his body was found on February 22. Authorities have suggested that he was misled into attending a fraudulent business meeting, which culminated in his death. Musembi had previously sought refuge at a relative’s house before moving in with a friend unaware of his alleged involvement in the crime.

On Tuesday, after the friend returned home from work, he discovered Musembi unconscious with severe injuries. After being turned away from Mama Lucy Hospital, Musembi was taken to Kenyatta Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries hours later. The Director of Criminal Investigations announced that an autopsy would be performed to clarify the cause of death.

Musembi was one of three individuals implicated in Scott’s murder; police are actively seeking another suspect, Benard Mbunga Mbusu, who is currently at large. Mbusu had been captured on CCTV with Scott prior to his disappearance on February 16. Two additional suspects are already in custody, contributing to the ongoing investigation.

The tragic death of Samuel Musembi raises several concerns regarding the ongoing investigation into Campbell Scott’s murder. Musembi’s alleged suicide sheds light on the intense pressure surrounding the suspects involved in this high-profile case. As investigations continue, authorities seek to bring all responsible parties to justice, ensuring the safety and accountability within the community.
