Kenya Met Warns of Heavy Rains and Temperature Variability This Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts moderate to heavy rains from March 14 to March 17, particularly affecting Highland East and West counties, as well as the Lake Victoria basin. Cold nights and warm days are also predicted, necessitating preparations among residents.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning for impending moderate to heavy rainfall across various regions of the country this weekend, specifically from March 14 to March 17. This rainfall advisory highlights that counties in the Highland East region, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi, will initially experience moderate rains for the first two days, followed by heavy rains thereafter.
In addition, the Highland West and Lake Victoria basin counties, such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet, are also forecast to encounter heavy rains from Saturday, March 15. Other counties anticipated to share the same weather conditions include Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
Residents in Southeastern counties, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and certain inland areas of Tana River, have been advised to prepare for heavy rainfall beginning in the afternoon of Saturday. This rainfall is expected to persist for three days, tapering off by March 17.
Coastal counties, namely Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal areas of Tana River, are predicted to receive minor amounts of rainfall during this time.
In conjunction with the rainfall advisory, Kenyans, particularly those in Highland East counties, have been cautioned to expect extremely cold night temperatures averaging around 5°C over the next five days commencing from March 14. Conversely, high daytime temperatures near 35°C are anticipated in counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, and others, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has alerted the public regarding substantial rainfall expected this weekend, mainly affecting specific counties. Heavy precipitation will commence on Saturday, especially in the Highland East and West as well as Lake Victoria basin.
