Impact of Tropical Cyclone “Jude” on Mozambique

Tropical Cyclone Jude has made landfall in Mozambique, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. The cyclone is moving westward with decreasing intensity, but central and northern regions are projected to face significant rainfall of up to 300 mm. Wind gusts may reach dangerously high levels, particularly along coastal areas.
The World Meteorological Centre in Beijing reported that Tropical Cyclone “Jude” made landfall on the eastern coast of Mozambique at 08:00 Beijing time on March 10, 2025. The cyclone is forecasted to move westward at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, with its intensity diminishing rapidly.
As a result of Cyclone Jude, significant rainfall is anticipated in central and northern Mozambique, as well as southern Malawi. The affected areas may experience heavy to torrential rains with precipitation accumulations ranging from 100 to 200 mm and localized areas exceeding 300 mm.
Wind speeds are expected to be severe, with gusts reaching levels 8 to 9 in central and northern Mozambique and coastal regions. In areas where the center of the cyclone passes, wind gusts may reach levels 10 to 12 or even levels 13 to 14.
In summary, Tropical Cyclone Jude is poised to affect Mozambique and parts of Malawi with substantial winds and heavy rainfall. The cyclone’s trajectory suggests that the worst impacts will be concentrated in central and northern Mozambique, where precipitation may be extreme. Authorities must prepare for potential flooding and hazardous wind conditions resulting from this severe weather event.
