Kenya Weather Forecast: Anticipated Rain and Temperature Variations this Week

Kenya will see moderate rainfall and high temperatures this week, especially in western regions. Light rains below 50 mm are forecast, with Nairobi and other Highlands experiencing morning rains. Higher temperatures above 32 °C are expected in some areas, while certain eastern regions may face elevated heat stress. The March-April-May forecast predicts drier conditions in much of East Africa but wetter weather in specific Kenyan regions.
Kenya is forecasted to experience moderate rainfall and elevated temperatures across various regions within the week of March 12 to March 19. The Igad Climate Predictions and Applications Center (ICPAC) predicts light rainfall, primarily in western Kenya, not exceeding 50 mm. Rain is also anticipated in southern Uganda, most of South Sudan, and parts of northern Tanzania.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has already announced possibilities of rainfall throughout most areas of the country, along with predictions of isolated heavy rain. For the period of March 11 to March 17, the Department forecasts morning rains in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi, Murang’a, and Kiambu Counties. Sunny intervals are expected on Thursday and Friday, with afternoon and nighttime showers anticipated as well.
The weekly forecast also indicates higher temperatures, with certain regions in Kenya expecting to exceed 32 °C. Specifically, parts of eastern South Sudan, western Ethiopia, and northwestern Kenya may experience these warmer conditions. Conversely, areas within Nairobi, Kiambu, and Nakuru are expected to maintain milder temperatures below 20 °C.
In eastern Kenya, including Makueni, Machakos, and Taita Taveta counties, residents may be at risk of increased heat stress. Furthermore, the ICPAC seasonal forecast for March-April-May indicates drier than normal conditions in much of Ethiopia, Somalia, and parts of East Africa, while wetter conditions are expected in western and southwestern Kenya, eastern Uganda, and other regions.
In summary, Kenya will witness moderate rainfall alongside higher temperatures in various regions over the next week. Significant rainfall is expected in western areas, while the Highlands East of the Rift Valley may experience morning rains. Although some regions will experience heightened temperatures, others will enjoy milder conditions. The forecast indicates a mixed weather pattern, emphasizing the need for preparedness against possible heat stress and variations in rainfall.
