Surveillance footage captured Konanki and her companions leaving the beach around 6 a.m., yet she is presumed to have remained behind with a man, who left without her several hours later. Riibe allegedly met Konanki’s group at the resort town of Punta Cana and is currently not a resident of Virginia.
The family of Sudiksha Konanki, originally from India, is receiving support from local authorities and federal law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. Several interviews have already been conducted with various individuals by the Dominican National Police in conjunction with the FBI, and efforts will continue as a sheriff’s office presence is established on the ground in the Dominican Republic.
Konanki is noted to have graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia. Missing person posters describe her as 5 feet 3 inches tall, with distinguishing features such as black hair and brown eyes, and detail her attire at the time of her disappearance.
In a statement to authorities, a man who was last seen with Konanki claimed they had entered the water, but after he passed out, she was nowhere to be found. Conflicting reports arose concerning the events at the beach, with local authorities investigating the claims while the man cooperates with them. Amidst the uncertainties, Konanki’s father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has urged investigators to consider alternatives beyond drowning, suggesting possibilities of kidnapping or abduction given his daughter’s unusual behavior of leaving personal belongings behind.
