The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has initiated its involvement in the search efforts for Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student who was last seen during a spring break trip in the Dominican Republic. Her disappearance occurred on March 6, in the early morning hours, from a beach at the Riu República Hotel.

Konanki’s disappearance coincided with a power outage at the hotel, which led numerous guests to the beach. Dominican President Luis Abinader expressed his concern, noting that all relevant government agencies are actively participating in the search. He indicated that reports from the last person with Konanki suggested she was overwhelmed by a wave while at the beach.

Contrary to some media reports, Civil Defense Director Juan Salas clarified that authorities have not discovered any of Konanki’s clothing, labeling those claims as false and unsubstantiated. As of now, local officials have made no comments on the matter.

Sudiksha Konanki, originally from India, is a U.S. permanent resident residing in Chantilly, Virginia. Following the report of her disappearance, her parents traveled to Punta Cana and have urged officials to extend the investigation. Her father revealed that she had traveled with five other female students to the Dominican Republic as part of their spring break trip.

The search for Sudiksha Konanki remains a priority, with the FBI now involved in efforts to locate her. Her disappearance under suspicious circumstances has prompted public concern and government action in the Dominican Republic. Clarifications have been made regarding the status of her belongings, and her family continues to seek assistance from authorities as the investigation unfolds.
