Bolivia’s rainy season has led to 40 deaths and 7 missing individuals due to flooding and landslides. Authorities have ordered evacuations in affected areas and reported 163,193 families displaced, with 37 municipalities declared disaster zones since November.

Recent heavy rainfall during Bolivia’s annual rainy season has resulted in the tragic loss of 40 lives, with seven more individuals reported missing, as confirmed by local authorities on March 11. The Deputy Minister of Civil Defence, Juan Carlos Calvimontes, cautioned that the death toll may increase following a landslide in La Paz that impacted 80 homes.

In response to the disaster, authorities mandated the evacuation of affected areas to prevent further fatalities and advised residents to avoid specific regions at risk of additional landslides. The most recent civil defense report indicated that 163,193 families have been displaced or rendered homeless as a result of the floods, predominantly in La Paz department.

Since the beginning of the rainy season in November, 105 municipalities across the country have been affected by severe flooding, with 37 municipalities officially declaring states of disaster due to the ongoing crisis.

The ongoing rainy season in Bolivia has caused significant devastation, resulting in 40 fatalities and substantial displacement.
