As the search for her progresses into its fourth day, her family is increasingly concerned about the possibility of her being kidnapped.
Ms. Konanki, originally from South Riding, Virginia, was vacationing at the Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana with five friends. Surveillance footage revealed the group enjoying themselves at the resort disco until approximately 3 a.m. before they proceeded to the beach around 4 a.m. After leaving her alone with Mr. Ribe at 5:50 a.m., he became the final person known to have seen her.
Mr. Ribe has presented three differing narratives regarding the events that transpired afterward. In one account, he stated he vomited due to rough surf, then left the water to check on Ms. Konanki. In another, he claimed to have last seen her in knee-deep water before losing consciousness. Additionally, he suggested he observed her walking along the shore prior to falling asleep.
Despite Mr. Ribe’s inconsistent statements, he has not been named as a suspect, and police confirmed his cooperation with the investigation. Ms. Konanki’s friends did not report her missing for nearly 12 hours, informing authorities at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Currently, search efforts are extensive, with drones, helicopters, boats, and all-terrain vehicles being utilized.
Authorities suspect Ms. Konanki may have drowned, as her clothing was discovered on a beach chaise lounge. Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has requested an expanded probe, fearing she has been abducted.
