Ousainou Bojang testified he left his passport and smartphone at home before going to Senegal. He confirmed giving his sister a bag containing his passport and money. The court joined various items into evidence as the trial proceeds.
Ousainou Bojang, currently on trial for the murder of two police officers and the serious injury of another, testified during his cross-examination on Wednesday, confirming he left his passport and a Techno Spark 8 smartphone at his residence in Brufut Village prior to his journey to Julolom, Senegal.
In his appearance before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh at the Banjul High Court, Bojang was questioned by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) AM Yusuf regarding his travel. Initially, Bojang believed he took his smartphone but later realized it remained in his sitting room, plugged into an electrical outlet.
Further inquiries revealed that Bojang had also entrusted a bag to his sister, Amie Bojang, who is the second accused in the case. This bag reportedly contained his passport, a Gambian residential permit, and an undisclosed amount of money that he had given her prior to his departure to Senegal.
When questioned about his Gambia Revenue Tin Certificates, Bojang stated he had lost one but subsequently obtained another using his Senegalese passport. Following this information, DPP Yusuf requested an adjournment, which the court accepted without any objections.
The court additionally admitted various items into evidence, including a D20,000 receipt from Guaranteed Trust Bank Gambia Limited, a black wool jacket, and a pair of white shoes alleged to belong to Bojang. Notably, Amie Bojang, his sister, faces a charge of accessory to murder under Section 202 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia.
In summary, Ousainou Bojang confirmed during cross-examination that he left his passport and smartphone in Brufut before traveling to Senegal. Testimonies revealed he had also given a bag containing his passport and cash to his sister. The court has admitted several items into evidence as it continues to examine the case, in which his sister is charged as an accessory to murder.
