Tahiru Issah, a 20-year-old scrap dealer, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for stealing fittings belonging to Ghana Water Limited. The Ashaiman Circuit Court has sentenced a 20-year-old scrap dealer, Tahiru Issah, to twelve months in prison with hard labor for theft. His conviction arose from a guilty plea related to stealing, as he appeared before the court on March 5, 2025.

Chief Inspector Henry Tetteh Nartey provided details about the case, stating that Issah, a Nigerien residing in Ashaiman, was apprehended by police during a routine night patrol on February 26, 2025. He was found with a black polythene bag containing heavy items, which raised suspicions.

Upon searching the bag, the police discovered six stopcocks, six safety valves, and one return valve, collectively valued at GHS 3,250.00, all belonging to Ghana Water Limited. Issah was subsequently arrested, taken to the Afienya Police Station, and admitted to stealing the items from local residents during interrogation.

Dr. Samuel Eson, the Regional Chief Manager for the Tema Region of Ghana Water Limited, expressed gratitude for the court’s judgment. He noted the company has faced multiple meter-stealing incidents recently, adversely affecting their operations.

Dr. Eson urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to police. He also warned scrap dealers and individuals involved in thefts from Ghana Water Limited installations to refrain from such actions, emphasizing that the law would be strictly enforced against offenders.
