The Niger State Police Command has apprehended eleven individuals for allegedly engaging in thuggery and disturbing public peace in the Chaichainiya area of Kaduna Road, located within the Suleja Local Government Area. This information was shared by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement released in Minna.

On March 6, 2025, at approximately 11:00 PM, law enforcement received reports of a violent altercation involving youths and secondary school students, allegedly led by an individual named Umar Idris. Witnesses indicated that the conflict arose over romantic disputes, during which gunfire erupted, injuring two young victims, Nura and Imrana, aged ten and eleven, respectively.

Following this incident, a covert police operation was conducted, resulting in the arrest of eleven suspects, including Umar Idris. These individuals are now under investigation. According to SP Abiodun, “a preliminary investigation revealed that a personnel of a sister’s security agency was responsible for the shooting that led to the gunshot injuries of the two victims.”

In conclusion, the Niger State Police Command’s recent actions demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining public safety in Suleja. The involvement of minors in the conflict highlights concerns regarding youth violence, and the investigation into the security personnel implicated in the shooting underscores the need for accountability within security services. The situation remains under investigation, with the arrested suspects continuing to face scrutiny.
