Renault Group Morocco has launched Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA) with Francisco José Martín Hernández appointed as General Director. The center will operate from locations in Tetouan and Tangier, enhancing engineering and manufacturing collaboration. The foundation of RTMA coincides with record vehicle production and export figures, as well as a significant market presence for Renault and Dacia.

Renault Group Morocco has announced the establishment of Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), appointing Francisco José Martín Hernández as its General Director, effective March 1. The engineering center will operate from two sites: the primary headquarters in Tetouan, focused on technological innovations, and a facility at the Renault Group plant in Tangier for industrial operations. This strategic placement is intended to enhance interaction between engineering and manufacturing divisions.

Hernández will report directly to Cedric Combemorel, Deputy CTO – VP Global Engineering & Tech, and functionally to Mohamed Bachiri, Director General of Renault Group Morocco. The company emphasized his extensive technical expertise and the responsibilities he has undertaken in locations including Spain, Romania, and France, which have prepared him for this new role.

With a robust background in engineering, Hernández, who graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and École Centrale de Lyon, joined Renault in 2002. He has worked in several significant roles within quality engineering and project management, specifically in mechanical and vehicle engineering across various Renault divisions. Before this new appointment, he was the Head of the Vehicle Engineering Department at Renault Technology Spain since 2021.

The foundation of RTMA coincides with remarkable performance from Renault Group Morocco, which recorded a total production of 413,614 vehicles in 2024, an 8% increase over the previous year. Notably, the Tangier plant produced 312,381 units, representing a 9% rise, while Casablanca’s SOMACA plant surpassed 100,000 vehicles for the first time, achieving 101,233 units produced.

Export activities have also thrived, with approximately 370,165 vehicles shipped to 68 destinations in 2024. The Tangier plant alone exported 298,045 units, making up 95% of its production, while Casablanca exported 72,120 vehicles, which constituted 71% of its total output. In the local market, Renault secured a 16.1% market share with 28,348 units sold, whereas Dacia achieved a dominant 25% market share with 39,330 units sold.

Financially, the group reported a turnover of MAD 63 billion (approximately $6.3 billion), affirming its status as Morocco’s largest private enterprise. The automotive sector supported by Renault represents 38% of the overall industry turnover and employs over 10,000 individuals.

Renault Group Morocco’s establishment of the Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA) signifies its commitment to enhancing engineering capabilities while maintaining robust manufacturing performance. Under the leadership of Francisco José Martín Hernández, the group anticipates further advancements in technology and productivity. Their impressive production and export statistics, along with strong market presence, underscore Renault Group Morocco’s substantial contribution to the national economy and the automotive sector.
