Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali has advocated for the finalization of the 16th protocol to bolster technical cooperation for the Tanzania-Zambia Railway. During discussions with Chinese Embassy Economic Counsellor Jin Jun, Mr. Tayali acknowledged the strides made by both governments while emphasizing the necessity of this new protocol. Permanent Secretary Fredrick Mwalusaka reiterated the need to move beyond the existing 15th protocol. Jin Jun confirmed the Chinese government’s willingness to adapt agreements as necessary.

Furthermore, Transport and Logistics Permanent Secretary Fredrick Mwalusaka noted that TAZARA has been functioning under the existing 15th protocol, thereby stressing the importance of moving forward with the upcoming 16th protocol. This situation highlights the necessity for timely progression and adaptation in operational agreements for TAZARA’s success.

Counsellor Jin Jun from the Chinese government expressed interest in receiving input regarding the 16th technical cooperation. He affirmed that existing agreements remain open for renegotiation and acknowledged the valuable feedback from the People’s Republic of Tanzania provided last year, demonstrating readiness for continued collaboration.
