The three fugitives, Bernard Mbunga Mbusu, Samuel Musembi Kamitu, and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa, had previously been implicated in a separate crime last year where they allegedly kidnapped and extorted a pastor in Nairobi. Reports indicate that during this incident, the pastor was assaulted, undressed, and coerced into transferring over 55,000 Kenyan shillings to the suspects under threats of having compromising photos released online.

In February, the Directorate noted that Mbusu, Kamitu, and Kilewa attacked the pastor as he was walking to a restaurant, subsequently stripping him naked inside a vehicle. The pastor reported that he was forced to divulge personal information while under duress. Following the incident, police conducted raids that recovered the stolen money as well as the pastor’s mobile device.

The suspects, after their arrest, were presented in court, although details of their legal proceedings remain uncertain. In contrast, Mr. Scott was last seen at the JW Marriot Hotel in Nairobi on February 16, and his body was discovered on February 22, bound and concealed in a sack of pineapples approximately 66 miles from the capital. Authorities have received court approval to detain the two suspects for an additional 21 days to facilitate further investigations into Mr. Scott’s murder.
