Central Asian Nations Condemn Nazi Glorification Ahead of WWII Anniversary

Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan condemned Nazi glorification at the UN Human Rights Council, calling it unacceptable and blasphemous as they prepare to commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War II’s end. The collaborative statement stresses the significance of historical truth and the fight against hatred.

In a significant move, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan collectively condemned the glorification of Nazis during the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. This statement was timed with the upcoming 80th anniversary of the conclusion of World War II, the deadliest conflict in history.

The delegation representative from Russia, Evgeny Ustinov, articulated the group’s stance, asserting, “We consider any attempt to glorify Nazis and their accomplices absolutely unacceptable.” He emphasized the condemnation of Nazi war criminals by the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, which recognized the genocide committed against the peoples of the Soviet Union.

The statement also denounced efforts to equalize the responsibilities of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany for the onset of World War II, labeling such attempts as “immoral and blasphemous.” This sentiment seeks to honor the memory of millions who perished in the struggle against Nazism.
